Permit us to introduce our pastor to you!
His name is Edward H. Schmidt and he has been serving St. Luke’s since 2019. He is a 1985 graduate of Concordia University in Seward, Nebraska where he majored in history and theology. From there his studies took him to Concordia Theological Seminary in Ft. Wayne Indiana where he majored in systematics. Upon graduating from the seminary he served congregations in southern Nebraska, northern Iowa, as well as western Colorado.
Pastor Schmidt is married to his wife Mary who also graduated from Concordia University with a Lutheran Teacher’s degree. She has taught in schools that were started in their own congregations as well as some outside of the Lutheran system. Over the years, God blessed them with four children, one son and three daughters, two of them are in the medical fields, while two are in financial fields. They deeply cherish their family especially with the rather sudden arrival of seven grandsons who keep them busy and ever entertained! Their lives reflect the joy of Psalm 127:3-5, “Children are a heritage from the LORD… blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them.”
In addition to his own family, Pastor Schmidt rejoices in the church families God has given to him over the years. And the church family at St. Luke’s is no different. Nothing is more wonderful than gathering with them around God’s Living Word. Together they share in the growing, learning, laughter and drama of salvation that God brings to them each week. “We are a family of faith that cares for each other and it’s so wonderful to see the love of Christ that they all show each other!”
When not doing ministry, Pastor Schmidt enjoys spending time with his dear family sharing in games. home-cooked meals and laughter around the kitchen table. He also enjoys the Colorado outdoors pursuing the activities of fly-fishing, camping, four-wheeling, exploring, and barbequing. “Life is beautiful,” he says, “and a wonderful gift from God!” “And through His Son, Jesus He will make sure it lasts in perfection and joy forever!”
